Dear Governor Haslam:
I am writing to urge you to maintain full funding for Tennessee’s 45 Peer Support Centers in the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services FY2014/15 budget.  A fact sheet illustrating the cost-effectiveness of Peer Support Centers and a map showing the
location of peer support centers across the state are enclosed.
Mental illness is inherently isolating. When the brain plays tricks, the feeling of being an outsider, of being unaccepted, unacceptable and besieged, takes center stage in one’s mind.  It is common to hole up at home – if you have one – and to shrink from going out to encounter suspicion, hostility and discrimination from others in the community.
